“Water is a common not a commodity” Open informational assembly on Tuesday 30 at 17.30 at Syntagma /archives/846 /archives/846#respond Sat, 27 Oct 2012 12:19:40 +0000 https://www.savegreekwater.org/?p=846 [box] In Tuesday 30 Oct there is a discussion inside the Parliament for the abolition of the  state’s minimum percentage in the profitable water companies EYDAP  and EYATH.. Outside the Parliament, we, the citizens, discuss in an open assembly-informative meeting, at 17.30 why the privatization of water in our country is a devastating and undemocratic development.[/box]

facebook event link

We explain and discuss

  • the remunicipalization trend in Europe
  • the unjustifiable, in techno-economic terms,  raise (till 260% in Europe) of prices that comes with all privatizations worldwide.
  • economic data showing that the company is given away and with an extra bonus of several million euro (of debts to it) to anyone who “buys” it in its current value
  • the “neutrality” as to the public or private water management that bounds the (non elected) EU Commission by the EU Treaty that makes their pressure, as member of the Troika, to privatize water services an illegitimate and illegal act.

and many more concrete arguments against the  vague and unsubstantiated chatter of the government and the corporate media.

[box] In Paris, the water returned to municipal control costing 90 billion today to multinationals that want to “invest” here. The referendum in Italy, now prohibits the Italian government to sell its water services. Everywhere in Europe and the world, people agree. “Water, is a common not a commodity.”[/box]

And we add:

Water is life and our lives are not for sale.
