The event is co-organized by the People’s Assembly of N. Smyrni and Savegreekwater. There will be updates and interventions by members of Savegreekwater, and employees of EYDAP (Athens water Company)and there will be also projection of video (summary of the documentary Water Makes Money)[/box]

«NO! TO WATER PRIVATIZATION»

AT THE  ‘PORT OF AGONY’

An event on the threat of water privatization is going to take place on Wednesday 27/2 at 8p.m. at the Social Space “Port of Agony”, Praxitelous 78 & Venizelou at Piraeus.

The event is going to start with a projection of a short version of the documentary “Water Makes Money” that presents the consequences of water privatization in several European countries, but also the trend of remunicipilization which followed these negative experiences.

After that, members of SAVEGREEKWATER – The initiative for the non privatization of water in Greece- and representatives of EYDAP employees, will inform the audience on the immediate memorandum threat of water privatization, first of Thessaloniki and then of Athens, which was forwarded among others by the French president in his recent visit and explain at the same time the moves they make in order to stop this from happening.

Some more interventions will follow and then there will be plenty of time for an open discussion with those present.

[box] The importance of water and the threat of its privatization will be the subject of an open discussion on Friday 22 of February at 18.30 at the Cultural Center “Thanos Kotsopoulos” (Municipal building ground floor, Archimedes 2 and Ippokratous, Galatsi) . This is an initiative of representatives of EYDAP employees and the Initiative for the non privatization of water in Greece “SAVEGREEKWATER” with the help of the Galatsi Municipality that hosts the event. There will be a projection of the awarded documentary Life For Sale by G.Avgeropoulos and after the projection, interventions and an open discussion will follow.  [/box]

The Board of Councils adopted the resolution of the residents of Pallini that expressed their will to protect water as a common, to safeguard that it stays safe and inexpensive for all, and that the managing body, EYDAP remains a public and social company. Avgeropoulos, a film on the negative experience of the privatization of water in other countries. The film will be introduced by the journalist himself. After the screening representatives of the employees of EYDAP and others from the citizens’ initiative for the non – privatization of water in Greece «SAVEGREEKWATER» will inform attendees about the problems that will be caused by the imminent privatization of EYDAP and EYATH, or those that emerged after the relevant privatizations in France, Germany, Canada, etc., The event is being organized by a Committee of  citizens, organizations and the employees’ club of Peristeri Municipality  [/box]
